Who pays for knead?

The following is intended to provide an overview of insurance coverage in relation to our services. Individual plans may vary – always confirm details with your insurance service provider.

Medical questions.

When do I pay?

We’re excited to now offer Direct Billing for select insurance companies! This means we’re now able to charge many insurance plans directly for services.

All you need to provide us with is the policy number and ID for your extended care company – we do the rest!

Eligible Providers

It’s important to note that we don’t have access to all the different insurance plans, so you need to check what your benefits cover. Even though we’d like to help, we can’t access your account to see what is left, or inquire about the details of your coverage.

Partial Coverage – If your plan doesn’t cover the cost of a full session, you will be billed and issued a receipt for what was not covered at the end of the session.

Secondary Coverage – We are not able to co-ordinate any secondary coverage that you may have through your spouse. Sorry!

Future Payments – We can only bill your insurance plan when services are rendered – we cannot bill for future appointments

When might I need to pay directly?

Sometimes we might have to take payment “the old fashioned way” – this means you pay in full at the end of a session and submit your receipts to your benefit company for reimbursement.

This might happen if:

How much does my insurance cover?

Some extended health plans may offer 100% coverage and unlimited sessions. Other health plans may work similar to a bank account, where you can “spend” up to a certain dollar amount as you see fit.

Typically, plans offer between $300 and $500 a year towards massage therapy. Some plans may require a doctor’s referral.

These are just examples. Only your specific plan provider can give you the details about your coverage!

MSP Premium Assistance.

If you qualify for Premium Assistance, we can now bill MSP directly – just provide your CareCard and pay for the remainder of your visit cost.

MSP currently covers $23 towards any appointment, up to 10 treatments per calendar year (those 10 visits are shared with chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture, naturopathy and non-surgical podiatry treatments). A doctor’s note is not needed for Premium Assistance.

RCMP members.

Each member of the RCMP now has $4800 to use for supplementary treatments as they see fit – this includes Massage Therapy!

We will continue to bill Medavie Blue Cross on your behalf, but a doctor’s note is required.

DVA coverage.

Veterans are covered up to a maximum $800 per year – an increase can be applied for if more treatment is required and recommended.

A doctor’s referral is necessary to use these benefits and to allow us to bill DVA directly.

ICBC coverage.

We do not bill ICBC directly. Clients must pay up front for treatment, and then can submit the receipts to their adjuster.

You can see an RMT after an Motor Vehicle Incident up to 12 visits before requiring a doctor’s note. If treatment and assessment is required after 12 sessions, you will need a doctor’s note to be reimbursed.

If you are working with a lawyer, please have them fax or email us with what they will be covering for you, and how to proceed with your billing.

Students.

While there is no specific insurance covering students for Massage Therapy costs, knead offers reduced rates and special packages for currently enrolled students. Also, many students may still have coverage under their parent’s insurance plans.

Please contact us for complete details.

Other questions.

If we haven’t specifically answered your question, please contact us and ask directly – there are many different providers and it’s hard to keep track of them all!

We also encourage you to contact your insurance coverage provider directly for specific details regarding your plan.
